Argument for "Florida" Catagory

Though to be fair, I suppose we could just change the "education" catagory to "Florida"...
There is some joke in here about coming out of the closet. I'm just too busy mom-ing, trying to figure out how these people get and keep teaching jobs to come up with it. :/

5 Y/O Student w/ Aspergers Voted Out By Class

Wow.

After each classmate was allowed to say what they didn't like about Barton's 5-year-old son, Alex, his Morningside Elementary teacher Wendy Portillo said they were going to take a vote, Barton said.

By a 14 to 2 margin, the students voted Alex — who is in the process of being diagnosed with autism — out of the class.

Man gets javelin stuck in knee

Storys like this make me want to rate my own personal pain experience. Basically, photographer wanders into the wrong part of the field during a track meet and gets hit by a javelin in the knee. Good stuff! Pictures included.

Filed under education, because track meets happen at schools.

Fairfax County School Board Is Dum

FCPS Cite ‘Morality Gap
For the first time, the school system provided student achievement data in areas related to character and morality development. Officials used information from elementary school report cards, student surveys and school discipline rates to determine student performance in these areas. Data showed a significant gap between elementary and middle school students who are white or Asian and those who are black or Hispanic in areas like "demonstrates sound moral character and ethical judgment,"

Father Knows Best...?

A Houston man got drunk and decided his children (ages 7 and 11) "needed to learn how to kill" so he Actually, I'm not even going to say it. But cat-lovers and people with children probably ought not read it. At least there's no picture.

School Girl Actually 39yo Man

Just because you bought a Japanese school girl outfit on the internet doesn't mean that you are now a Japanese school girl. Even if you did put it on with a wig and everything.

Siesta!

Found this in Inky Circus: everybody petition your workplace for an afternoon nap. A 90-minute nap increases your likelihood to be able to recreate a task. The thing the title doesn't convey is that it only helps in the short term. Once the two groups had both had a night's sleep, they were equal in abilities. Except for this weird group who learned two different things.... You should probably read it for yourself.

Barbaric Practices for $300, Alex

A school in Massachusetts has successfully retained its right to use electrical shocks to discipline students, despite the fact that in October, they had to fire 7 people and explain why two of the students had been shocked excessively in the middle of the night. (One of them, to the point of treatable burns.) Oh, did I mention? The incident was provoked by a prank call from a former student/inmate there, pretending to be a supervisor....

Meet the Meat

What you've been waiting for: a web site featuring extreme close up pictures of a specific brand of processed, packaged salami. Not all vegetarians hang around trying to gross themselves out, right?

Gun control, UK style

Since JG didn't go ahead and post this himself, I'll take the liberty of posting it for him.

Canada has brutal public service announcements

Provided by JG for our entertainment/horrification: For a country with such a lighthearted nature, Canada sure has some serious public service announcements.
