misjudging the public

Seriously?

Am I the ONLY one who read that and thought "Awesome! Where can I get one of those?"

I'm not mean.....You're just a sissy.

I'm not totally sure you

I'm not totally sure you could be trusted with that.

... I know I couldn't. ;)

It's hard for me to understand

... how people justify this stuff to themselves. I mean, it's all well and good to say, "it's OK as long as it happens to the other guy" but the way of the world is, sometimes you *are* the other guy. And, frankly, I don't think having the precious bodily fluids boiled is a decent thing to do to anyone.

well

My hope is that, like the atomic bomb, they saw this as a weapon so terrible that used once it would be an effective deterrent, so you wouldn't have to use it ever again.

OK, *but*....

There's a fundamental flaw in the arms race thing. It's only a matter of time before the weapons that can only be used once (or twice, as the case may be) get used. That's just the way people are. This is why so much of the world has spent the last 70ish years waiting to be nukeularly annihilated. In my opinion, the fact that it's been so long doesn't at all reduce the possibility of it happening. More like, the more time goes by, the higher probability of someone using the doomsday machine.

Of course, my faith in humanity may be severely lacking.
