Two men are pursuing a lawsuit in federal court because they think a giant particle accelerator that will begin smashing protons together outside Geneva this summer might produce a black hole or something else that will spell the end of the Earth — and maybe the universe. Scientists say that is very unlikely — though they have done some checking just to make sure.

Hypothetically...
If they *did* accidentally create a black hole at CERN, and if it *was* big enough to destroy the universe.... would that be fast? I mean.... would we even have time to worry about it? Or would the black hole start out really small, and then there would be an interminable delay while we struggle to find an anti-black-hole technology to save the worl.... oh, wait. There's already a book about that. David Brin already wrote EARTH.
