A Houston man got drunk and decided his children (ages 7 and 11) "needed to learn how to kill" so he Actually, I'm not even going to say it. But cat-lovers and people with children probably ought not read it. At least there's no picture.
OTOH it's perfectly legal to blow a wing off of a bird and leave it to bleed out on a hunting trip. I don't really get why that's better than strangling a cat to death. Child trauma aside.
OTOOH people make their kids do shit they don't want to do all the time, including going on hunting trips and visiting smelly old people. Is this really worse than stroked-out grand parent kisses?
Torturing animals is torturing animals. Psychologically, it's different for house-pets though. To treat an animal with love and care, to feed it and pet it and give it a name just to turn around and torture or kill it... there's something wrong with you. Not that torturing any animal makes you a completely sane person, IMO, but there are levels. heh
So, yeah, I think going out to shoot a deer with your kids, whether or not they want to, is different then making them kill their loved family pet.

I'm not sure "neglect of a dependent" is accurate, here. If anything, he paid too much attention to his dependents. There has to be a different charge for totally fucking traumatizing your kids. Also, hello, at least TWO counts of animal cruelty, please? (One for stabbing, one for strangling...)
